Dr. Sen joined CGCRI in in May, 1983

Research Interest
  • Specialty optical fibers for applications in high power fiber laser, Optical amplifier, fiber Bragg gratings, interferrometric sensors etc. In the area of Glass Science and technology, the research interest is primarily towards specialty glass and glass ceramics for advanced applications.

Professional Career
  • Continuing as a Research Scientist since 1983 in Fiber Optics & Photonics Division
  • Associated with Glass Division since last three years and has presently taken over as Head of the Division.
  • Worked as a Guest Scientist in Technical University, Braunschweig, Germany during 2004 - 2005

Awards/Recognition
  • DAAD Fellowship in 1990-91
  • Deokaran Award of Indian Ceramic Society in 1991
  • Best paper award in OECC 2003 Conference in China
  • Invitation from TU Braunschweig, Germany to join as a guest Scientist during 2004-05
  • Royal society award project in 2008 with City University, London

  • Establishment of a state of the art facility for manufacturing specialty fiber preforms and demonstration of the technology of making a few varieties of specialty fiber including those for optical amplifiers and fiber lasers.

  • Development of the process know-how of making rare earth doped fluoride glass preforms and fibers of various designs.
