Erbium Doped Fibre Amplifier (EDFA)
CGCRI pioneered R&D work on optical fibre fabrication in the
country. EDFA is the first indigenously developed photonic product in
India which penetrated US market after its indegenous release
in collaboration with NeST, Cochin. Fifty five numbers sold in
India and 22 supplied to USA. The first Prototype of 32-channel telecom WDMEDFA Module has been tested successfully in BSNL
optical network system (STM-16, 2.5Gbps) for offline
characterization. A special type of fibre grating
filter has been designed and developed in addition
to the Erbium doped amplifier fibre to suit the Cband
telecom wavelength for 32-channel operation.
This is an essential component for the telecom
network in the country.
