Objective of ISEM-2011
As a part of its Diamond Jubilee celebrations during 2010-2011, Central Glass & Ceramic
Research Institute (CGCRI), Kolkata, a national institute under the Council of Scientific and
Industrial Research (CSIR), is organizing a series of symposia and conferences in diversified
areas of materials science in general and glass and ceramics in particular. As a continuation of
this series, we are pleased to announce that the Institute will be organizing a two-day
International Symposium on Energy Materials : Opportunities and Challenges (ISEM-2011)
to be held at CGCRI, Kolkata during March 01-02, 2011.
While steady economic growth and sustainable development of the society demands more
energy consumption, we are rapidly approaching an era when fossil fuel sources will be largely
depleted. Therefore, emphasis should be given to have more innovations in the areas of
renewable energy, energy efficiency and new technologies for both energy end-use and supply.
Thus, intensive research on alternate/renewable energy sources as well as efficient energy
conversion/storage devices are being carried out throughout the world at different research
organizations, academic institutions and industries. Under this background, the above-mentioned
symposium aims at bringing together academicians, scientists and technologists at a common
platform providing a unique opportunity to them for communication and collaboration in this area
of extreme global importance.
