CGCRI, Khurja Center              Khurja Whiteware Cluster
    Established in 1981 as a center of Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute, Kolkata, a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) under the assurance for continuous for financial support from the Govt. of Uttar Pradesh. The Centre was established to provide technical support to the khurja Pottery Industries cluster and also help in developing ceramic and allied industries in the state.
Major Activities
  • R&D directed towards standardization, evaluation and optimized utilization of the country's resources related to ceramic raw materials for producing ceramic ware.
  • Under take projects sponsored by institution in the public/ private sector.
  • Consultancy and technical assistance to industries in solving day to day problems like improving quality, productivity, designs & performance of furnace and improving process parameters, reducing cost of production, import substitutions and export promotion etc.
  • Development of appropriate rural technologies relevant to the social, economic and industrial needs of the country.
  • Technical advisory services like information extension, consultancy and testing.
  • Organizing and conducting training cum demonstration programme on different developments made in traditional ceramics as a major Human Resource Development activity.
  • Development of new technologies for law cast ceramic product utilizing conventional and waste raw material.
  • Servicing as a source of technical infrastructure to ceramic industries.
  • Energy conservation and pollution control.
  • Waste minimization in ceramic units.

    1. White Ware Ceramic cluster Development  DC (MSME), New Delhi
    2. Development of a suitable body composition for making crockery ware for firing in the Roller Hearth Kiln UNIDO, New Delhi
    3. Design & development of low capacity LAP burners for ceramic / pottery industry at Khurja (jointly IIP, Dehradun and CGCRI, Khurja), PCRA, New Delhi
    4. Reducing Kiln Car Mass through Betted designing to improve Fuel Efficiency PCRA, New Delhi
    5. Improvement Tunnel Kiln for Better Efficiency PCRA, New Delhi
    6. State initiated Design Centre for Glass & Ceramics DC (Handicraft), New Delhi
    7. Physical & Chemical Analysis of ceramic raw materials & allied products and other technological services. In-house
    8. Consultancy Project on utilizing Calcium Hydroxide in ceramic industries  M/s Moser Baer Photo Voltaic Pvt. Ltd. G.Noida
