The Naroda Centre of CGCRI set up in 1977 is situated in Ahmedabad in Gujarat State. The Centre caters to the needs of the ceramic industries in Gujarat and neighbouring States, manufacturing traditional ceramics such as ceramic floor & wall tiles, vitrified & porcelain tiles, sanitary ware, stone ware, table ware & decorating wares, LT insulators, high tech ceramics, refractories, industries manufacturing ceramic raw materials such as china clay, ball clay etc.

Major Activities
  • Establishment of ceramic cluster for the benefit of ceramic industries located in Morbi-Thangadh, Wankaner, Himatnagar and Ahmedabad Region.
  • Providing technical information and guiding industries to attain better productivity and quality, and ISO certification.
  • Development of processes for newer products utilizing low grade and waste materials namely fly ash, fired ceramic scrap, waste from china clay washery, calcium silicate slag, rice husk ash, silica fume, marble waste etc.
  • Development of lead-free high strength eco-friendly blue pottery and implementing the technology package in all the clusters in the district of Jaipur, Rajasthan. This has led to the receipt of an Award of Excellence in RD from Federation of Gujarat Industries, Vadodara.
Current Activities
  • Development of glazed floor tiles utilizing low energy intensive technology for body and glaze production. Sponsored by Commisionerate of Industries, Govt. of Gujarat.
  • Futuristic research work in the area of sol gel application in traditional ceramics, Sponsored by Commisionerate of Industries, Govt. of Gujarat.
  • Development of appropriate beneficiation technique and its implementation for projection of Than Fire Clay available in Thangadh and surroundings in Gujarat state for ceramic industry, Sponsored by Commisionerate of Industries, Govt. of Gujarat.
  • Development of an appropriate body mix through part and/or complete replacement of Ukraine clay in body composition for Granite, Sponsored by Commisionerate of Industries, Govt. of Gujarat.
  • Providing testing facilities for ceramic raw material and finished goods. It has obtained ISO:9001:2000 certification, and is committed to total customer's satisfaction.
  • Conducting demonstration programme for the supervisors and workers for continual improvement of technical skills and efficiency of human resources in the areas of glass, ceramic, refractory, ceramic raw materials and allied industries.
