March 1, 2010: Prof Indranil Manna takes over as Director, CGCRI.

March 17, 2010: CGCRI signs a Non-Disclosure agreement with Samtel Colour Limited, New Delhi for large scale production of RSW glass utilizing the technology developed by CGCRI. The agreement also envisaged upscaling of the technology to meet the overall requirement of RSW glasses of different sizes and densities for the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India

April 30, 2010: To make the common man aware of the solutions available to the age related bone problems, CGCRI organized a press conference within its premises. Prof Indranil Manna, Director and Dr D Basu, Head, Bioceramics & Coating Division of CGCRI addressed to the media the breakthrough achieved by the Institute in collaboration with other Institutes and Hospitals in the country to the bone related ailments

May 11, 2010: CGCRI signs agreement with M/s H. R. Johnson (India), a Division of Prism Cement Limited for utilizing the knowhow for manufacture of glass beads/ nodules used for nuclear waste immobilization.

May 24, 2010 : Prof. Kamanio Chattapadhyay, Materials Engineering Department, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore delivered a talk on "Size effect in Phase transformation and electron microscopy" at CGCRI

May 25, 2010 : Prof. K. T. Jacob INAE Distinguished Professor and Honorary Professor, Materials Engineering Department, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore delivered a talk on "Conceptual design of new solid oxide fuel cells with liquid metal electrodes" at CGCRI

The latest human trial of all ceramic implant done June 6, 2010 : Padmashree & Padmabhushan Dr K H. Sancheti, Chairman, Sancheti Institute of Orthopaedics and Rehabilation, Pune performed first human trial of all ceramic hip joint prosthesis implant developed by CGCRI at Jubilant Kalpataru Hosspital at Barasat, West Bengal. Later he along with CGCRI scientists briefed the pressmen about the new innovation.

June 15, 2010 : Prof. K. L. Chopra, Ex-Director, IIT, Kharagpur, and Chairman, CSIR Task force programme on Nanostructured materials delivered a talk on "Nanoscience and Nanotechnology: Hope or Hype" at CGCRI

June 11, 2010: Prof S.K.Brahmachari, DG-CSIR visited CGCRI and held discussion with the Senior scientists . He also addressed the Group IV scientists of the Institute.

July 4, 2010 : Dr. P.S. Goel, President , Indian National Academy of Engineering(INAE) formally inaugurates CGCRI website at CGCRI

July 6, 2010 : Prof. Himanshu Jain, T.L. Diamond Distinguished Chair in Engineering and Applied Science and Professor of Materials Science & Engineering and Director, NSF?s International Materials Institute for New Functionality in Glass , Lehigh University, USA, delivered a talk on "Multifunctionality glasses" at CGCRI

July 3, 2010: P.S. Goel, President, Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) formally inaugurates CGCRI website.

July 29, 2010 : Prof. (Dr.) G. Subhash, Milsaps Prof., Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, University of Florida, USA delivered a talk on "Dynamic behaviour of transparent ceramics" at CGCRI.

August 13, 2010 : Prof. Jyoti Mazumder, Robert H. Lurie Professor of Engineering, University of Michigan, USA delivered a lecture on "Challenges and promise of laser materials processing' at CGCRI.

August 31, 2010 : Prof. Kang Li, Professor of Chemical Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering & Chemical Technology, Imperial College London, South Kensington, London delivered a lecture on ?Ceramic hollow fibre membranes for energy utilization? at CGCRI.

September 15, 2010: Mr. Stuart Wakefield, Regional Manager & Application Specialist, Malvern Instruments Ltd, United Kingdom delivered a talk on "Application of dynamic light scattering system for different kind of nano samples, data analysis by the software of Malvern Nano System, Zeta Potential analysis of different kind of samples etc.".

September 26, 2010: Prof. Soumitro Banerjee, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata delivered 68th CSIR Foundation day lecture entitled, "Fractuals: The Geometry of Nature".

October 7, 2010 : Dr. Gianluca Gagliardi, Senior Scientist, CNR, Naples, Italy delivered a lecture on "High sensitivity physical and chemical sensing by optical fibre resonators" at CGCRI

October 8, 2010 : Prof. Vinay Gupta, Department of Physics, University of Delhi, Delhi delivered a lecture on "SAW sensors" at CGCRI.

December 1, 2010 : Prof. Lars-Erik Lindgren, Department of Applied Physics, Materials & Mechanical Engineering, Lulea University of Technology (Ltu), Sweden delivered a lecture on "Physically based models-necessity for simulation of a chain of manufacturing processes" at CGCRI.

December 21, 2010 : Prof. Sudipta Seal, Professor in Mechanical Materials and Aerospace Engineering Department and Director of Advanced Materials Processing and Analysis Center and Nanotechnology Center (AMPAC), University of Central Florida, USA delivered a lecture on "Role of rare earths in biology" at CGCRI

December 30, 2010 : Prof. D. Rao, Distinguished Professor, Department of Physics, University of Massachusetts, Boston and Fellow of American Physical Society, USA delivered a lecture on "Optical fourier phase contrast microscopy" at CGCRI.

January 17, 2011 : Dr. Joseph T. Evans (Jr.) of M/s.Radiant Technologies Inc. USA deliverd a lecture on "Ferroelectric/Piezoelectric measurement systems and recent developments of their products using new techniques" at CGCRI.

January 28, 2011 : Prof. Sarit Kumar Das, Head, Transfer and Thermal Power Lab., Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras delivered a lecture on "Electronic cooling and drug delivery : two ends of nano-impact" at CGCRI.

February 1, 2011 : Dr. S. Santra, Visiting Fellow, University of Cambridge delivered a lecture on "Nanomaterials integration with fully processed CMOS substrate and their application in gas sensing" at CGCRI

February 18, 2011 : Mr. Christian Bochert, Managing Director of Buehler Germany delivered a lecture on "Introduction to buehler the science behind materials preparation" at CGCRI.

February 24, 2011 : Mr. Patrcik Heyer, Anton Paar, Austria delivered two lectures on "Smart Material Rheology" and "High Temperature Rheology" at CGCRI.

February 28, 2011 : Prof. Namita Roy Choudhury, Ian Wark Research Institute, University of South Australia, Mawson Lake Boulevard, South Australia delivered a lecture on "Nanostructured gels and hybrids for membrane and coating applications" at CGCRI.

High pressure Abrasive Waterjet machine for hard ceramic cutting : CGCRI, Kolkata procured a very high pressure waterjet cutting machine that operates at a maximum pressure of 6200bar. The high pressure water-abrasive mixture is ideal for cutting very hard ceramics, composites and glass products. The machine is installed for the first time in the eastern region and such a high pressure machine is the first of its kind in India. The machine will be utilized in many in-house projects and for outside agencies in future.
