Overview
The major areas of expertise are bioceramic based materials/coating, e.g., hydroxyapatite/β - tricalcium phosphate, alumina, partially stabilized zirconia for application in integrated ocular implant, bone grafting material, drug delivery and hip/knee joint. The division has developed and marketed technologies for hip-joint and integrated orbital implant. Another area of focus is nanoceramic based vehicle for targeted delivery of anticancerous/antinflammatory drugs.

Other areas of work are partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ), zirconia toughened alumina (ZTA), different types of glass, bioglass, glass-ceramic coatings on metals like stainless steels, titanium and its alloys, nimonic and other super alloys. The division has major facilities for the R&D related activities as above.

The research team of the division comprise: ten (10) Scientists, eight (08) Research Fellows, four (04) Technical Officers and six (06) other Supporting Staffs.
