DST-SERC School on Guided Wave Optics and Devices
A three-week School on Guided Wave Optics and Devices was staged at CGCRI, Kolkata from February 7-25, 2011 as apart of year long Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the Institute. The programme wasl be inaugurated by Prof. Ajoy Kumar Ray, Vice Chancellor of Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur. Prof.Ajoy Kumar Ghatak, former renowned Professor of Indian Institute of Technology - Delhi graced the function as Guest of Honour. Veteran Dr. Prasenjit Saha, Former Scientist,. CGCRI under whose pioneering leadership the fibre optics activities were initiated in CGCRI over a couple of decades ago also graced the inaugural session.

Around 45 students and teachers from all over the country participated in the School. Eminent teachers and experts from India and abroad took classes, and few hands on demonstration and practical classes were also conducted during the course work. The School included special lectures in evening by renown personalities in the field. Most of the participants were Ph.D. students pursuing their career in guided wave optic and photonics. The programme was funded by Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC) of Department of Science and Technology( DST), Govt. Of India, New Delhi. This DST-SERC School on Guided Wave Optics and Devices was planned precisely to train and inculcate the zeal for pursuing R&D amongst young researchers and academicians and help India forge ahead and take a leading role in area of guided wave optics and photonics.
