Clay & Traditional Ceramics Section Major Activities Sponsored Research Contract Research Basic Research Development of appropriate technology for diversification of rural pottery products and traditional ceramics in different parts of the country under "Societal Mission Programme" Human Resource Development through training -cum -demonstration programme Collaborative educational programme with College of Art and Design, Burdwan, affiliated to Burdwan University Alternative low cost fuel for ceramic firing Rendering assistance to the Industries in the field of Traditional Ceramics Solid waste utilization programme particularly industrial by-products Routine testing of clayey materials In-house production of refractory crucibles, tubes, slumping boxes etc. Current Activities Commercialization of Bone China technology at CCRD, Panchmura, Bankura, West Bengal and its sustainable development. Evaluation of clay deposits of Bankura, Birbhum and Purulia in West Bengal for possible utilization in ceramic industries. Development of blended clay utilizing various sources of West Bengal clays. Organophyllic nano-clays. New generation castables. Refractory pot for commercial and special glass melting. Mullite ceramics Waste utilization New building materials.
