Research Area:

Development of different waveguide design as well as various new material composition based specialty optical fibers to improve their corresponding waveguide/spectroscopic/ lasing/amplification/sensing properties for high power fiber FBG based refletors,  high power fiber laser, high power optical amplifier, broad-band sources starting from VIS to mid IR regions, fiber based hydrophone, fiber based saturable absorber for making of mode-locked as well as Q-switching fiber laser and  fiber based radiation as well as chemical sensors.

Research Interest towards making of fiber optic based devices:-

  1. Development of special ultra high NA based EDF  for  making of DFB or DBR Fiber laser  to develop fiber optic based hydrophone.
  2. Development of Metal nano-particles doped rare-earths co-doped optical fiber for making of fiber laser in visible region
  3. Development of Rare-earths doped nano-engineering YAS glass based optical fiber for making of high power fiber laser
  4. Development of multicore rare-earths doped optical fiber for making of mode-locked multi wavelength fiber laser .
  5. Development of large mode area EDF for high power optical amplifier as well as pico second pulse fiber laser.
  6. Development of Rare-earths doped nano-engineering glass based optical fiber based on zirconia-yttria-alumina-silica glass host for making of high power optical amplifier
  7. Development of Bismuth doped multi-element glass based optical fiber for making of broad band light source within 1100- 1500nm.
  8. Development of Chromium doped YAG nano-engineering glass based optical fiber for making of broad band light source.
  9. Development of highly non-linear optical fiber for making of blue enhanced SC source
  10. Development of PM –EYDF for making of rugged, lower cost wind LIDAR module.
  11. Development of new class of multimaterial glass based photosensitive fiber for regenerated fiber Bragg grating sensors for operation at high temperature (~14000C) .
  12. Development of Er/Yb doped cladding pump optical fiber for high power optical amplifier
  13. Developed Tm doped nano-engineered glass based optical fiber for mode locked fiber laser.

Notable Research Contribution

A. Specialty Optical Fibers:-
  • Developed suitable Er2O3 doped fibres in germano-alumina-silica glass for optical amplifier in C-band gain flattened DWDM communication networking system and CATV application.
  • Developed large core Yb2O3 doped nano-engineering glass host based fibres for high power fiber laser source that generated 250W of continuous-wave output power with 75% slope efficiency.
  • Developed suitable GeO2+B2O3 codoped photosensitive fibres for writing fibre-Bragg grating to make fibre optics based components and devices.
  • Developed high P2O5 doped radiation sensitive optical fibres for use as a radiation sensor in fibre optic dosimetry.
  • Developed dual core erbium doped optical fiber for optical amplifier in C-band gain flattened DWDM communication Networking system
  • Developed erbium doped optical fiber based on zirconia-yttria alumina silica glass host for optical amplifier in C-band gain flattened DWDM communication Networking system.
  • Developed suitable Er/Yb codoped fiber for high power optical amplifier.
  • Developed metal nano-particles doped optical fibers for broad band source at visible region
  • Developed Bismuth doped nano-engineering glass based optical fiber for broad band source at NIR region

B. Fiber optic based devices:- :-

  • Optical Optical Amplifier module having output power +23dBm for CATV application.
  • Broad band supercontiniuum source having maximum output power of 2.0 W from 500nm to 2200nm.
  • Confocal Microscope having spectral range from 450 to 2400nm with spectral resolution of 1nm in Visible and 7 nm at NIR region.
