Testing and Characterisation

Testing and Characterization Cell (TCC)

CSIR-CGCRI has a Testing and Characterization Cell to act as a Single Window Clearing Unit for all testing and characterization related services. Testing of raw materials and products in the field of Glass, Ceramics, Refractories, Polymer & Composites including energy materials, bio-materials & other functional materials are being carried out as per national and international standards, wherever applicable. Through TCC, the CSIR-CGCRI provides range of testing and characterization services to industries, academic institutions, other R&D organizations including other CSIR laboratories, college & universities, public and private laboratories, etc. on payment of admissible testing charges for the respective ‘Testing & Characterization’ facilities. The major testing programme of this Institute includes the following facilities:

  • Testing & evaluation of mechanical property of Glasses, Ceramics, Refractories, Polymers & Composites, metals, etc.
  • Thermal & Thermo-mechanical property evaluation of refractory materials
  • XRD, XRF, XPS
  • FESEM, TEM, EDAX
  • ICP & AAS (Chemical Analysis)
  • DTA, TGA & DSC
  • Gas sorption and surface area evaluation
  • Evaluation of Optical property
  • Cell fabrication and Testing of lithium-ion batteries
  • Evaluation of dielectric properties of ceramics and glasses
  • Testing of ceramic membranes and analysis of water/waste water

Terms & Conditions:

  1. All tests can only be performed based on the standard test-techniques /methodologies/test protocols as approved by the competent authority and mentioned in Test-schedules for respective tests.
  2. Testing procedures for all external users shall be initiated, only when both the duly filled ‘Test Requisition Form’ with samples and requisite testing charges with GST (as applicable) are received at CSIR-CGCRI.
  3. Payment of Testing charge (particularly for external users) shall be made through various modes of Online transfer (RTGS / NEFT / ECS) or by QR scan only. The amount of payment will be same, as mentioned the Proforma invoice, issued for the same. Details of transaction(s) thus made for these purposes must be intimated to Testing & Characterization cell by email at testingcell.cgcri@csir.res.in, or testing_cell@cgcri.res.in for initiating the testing process.
  4. CSIR-CGCRI will provide the Test report/results in Soft-copy only upon completion of respective tests and the said Test Report/Results will be sent only to the registered email ID or the alternate email ID as indicated in the original Test Requisition Form. No hard/print copy of Test Report will be provided/sent via post or courier. However, hard copy of the Test report can be provided on special cases, if it is very much essential for official purposes, user must make a special request to the in-charge of Testing cell for providing the Hard/print copy of Test report with proper justification for the same.
  5.  All the Test Reports, issued by Testing Cell of CSIR-CGCRI (in any forms) must be treated a Confidential and shall not be shared with any others.
  6.  Any alteration, modification of the Test Report(s), issued by Testing Cell of CSIR-CGCRI is a punishable offence
  7.  In case of issuance of Duplicate Test Certificate if require (at later date), registered user shall make separate request for the same within 60 days. However, users must pay the requisite charges of Rs.1000/- (per duplicate certificate) plus GST (at applicable rates) for issue duplicate Test certificate.
  8.  CSIR-CGCRI will issue Tax Invoice only upon receipt of full payments, against the proforma invoice, issued earlier to the user(s)for their respective tests.
  9.  Any leftover samples (once tested) will not be returned to the user, in any case. However, if any processing facility of CSIR-CGCRI are used, then users can take back the left over samples and/or the processed samples thus made, if they desire so.

  11.  CSIR-CGCRI, Kolkata has the full rights modification/alteration, amendment of this Policy Statement (either part and/or full) at any point of time, as the competent authority felt essential for the same.

NOTE: Standard testing time for respective tests would be about 15 working days. However, it can be minimized to 8 working days on urgency basis for which a special request and additional payments are to be made by the users accordingly
