Research Interest

Advanced spectroscopy of transition and rare earth ions in a wide variety of specialty glasses, phosphors, nano glass-ceramics for optoelectronic or photonic applications. Conducting glasses and glass ceramics for solid state electrolyte applications. Further, development of bioactive glasses and glass ceramics with anti-bacterial for bio implants, tissue engineering along with anti-microbial coatings on glasses.  Infrared transmitting oxide and non-oxide glasses for IR optics and photonics.

Notable Research contribution:

Technology developed:

  • Indigenous process technology for the production of large sized Nd-laser glass rods and discs
  • IR transmitting chalcogenide glasses for thermal imagers

Products developed:

  • Sm3+ doped filter glass for laser cavity material to enhance the laser efficiency by 30% from Nd-Lasers
  • Fe3+ doped phosphate glass as IR absorbing filter for laser eye-safe filter glasses
  • (CdSSe)Te semiconductor micro-crystals incorporated glasses for IR transmitting filter glass as component in optical device
  • Novel low silica alkaline earth aluminate glasses for MIR photonic applications
  • Indigenous process technology for the production of large sized Nd-laser glass rods and discs
  • IR transmitting chalcogenide glasses for thermal imagers
  • Thermally stable novel bioactive glasses with anti-bacterial property
