Nanostructured mesoporous silica based hard and AR coating with hydrophobic surfaces on millimeter scale textured solar cover glasses showing better light conversion efficiency and stability have been developed. Solar panel has been fabricated using fabricated solar modules (36 cells with output values 18 V/ ~2.7 A/ 48.6 W) with cover glasses above (12 modules) and controls (3 modules with uncoated cover glass) and mounted on the rooftop of CSIR-CGCRI to monitor the performances. Initial results (after ∼8-9 months) are good. Patent has been filed in India (Patent application no. 201811023896 dated: 27/06/2018). Eventually, The final aim of AR coatings by spray-coating technique up to a dimension of 1 ft x 1 ft is envisioned. In this regard suitability of sol compositions/formulations effective for generating coating by spray coating unit and study their coating properties are ongoing subsequent to installation of spray coating unit. Initial results are extremely encouraging.
